A Wish That Came True

100_4685.jpgLook! Mom forgot to put the chair in front of the pantry door!!! WEEEEE! Of course mom and dad weren’t too happy. I’m not sure if getting my picture taken with the evidence was good or not.

A Dog’s Purpose

A DOG’S PURPOSE FROM A SIX YEAR OLD

(I found this story at a friend’s blog and boldly copied it to put here.)

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Bozo. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Bozo, and they were hoping for a miracle.I examined Bozo and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Bozo, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience the next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Bozo’s family surrounded him.Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time , that I wondered if he understood what was going on.Within a few minutes, Bozo slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Bozo’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Bozo’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.

“Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”

The six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

Take naps.Stretch before rising.Run, romp, and play daily.Thrive on attention and let people touch you.Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you’re not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day , be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Things I Have To Do For A Treat….

100_4665.jpgor, as mom calls them, tricks. This is my newest one called “Sit Up Pretty.” Mom calls it that because my cuzin Buffy , who went to the Rainbow Bridge last year, used to do it. Mom said she was so cute when she sat up pretty. Well now this is one of the things I have do do for a little tiny treat. (Rusty’s Mom: I don’t know why he likes them so much. It’s not like he chews them.)

hold.jpgMon calls this one HOLD. I call it TORTURE  because that little treat is….just….right….there. I can see it if I cross my eyes. It’s not even being held in mom’s hand. Today I had to sit with that yummy treat on my nose while she fooled with the camera! I guess that was ok because she gave me an extra one for being so good.

Things I Think

rustycute1.jpgThis is me thinking! These are some things I think:

  • I think my blog friends are fun.
  • I think squirrels drool. All of them.
  • I think cats drool. Except Dallas and the Aged Cat.
  • I think I love my walkies.
  • I think Bear tries to steal some of MY pats.
  • I think homemade dog biscuits are the BEST.
  • I think the best shops are the ones that sell homemade dog biscuits.
  • I think mom should stay home with me and not go to work.
  • I think chihuahuas are cute.
  • I think I should get treats when I try so hard to look especially cute.
  • I think I should be able to look for tootsie rolls in the cat box if I want to.
  • I think that chair should be moved away from the pantry door.
  • I think it is fun to run fast through puddles.
  • I think it is fun to chase squirrels.
  • I think squirrels drool. I know I already said that, but……..
  • I think that baby gate should be tossed out.
  • I think my morning bounce is fun.
  • I think breakfast and dinner should have milk poured over it.

That’s not all I think, but it will do for now! What do you think?

Nothing Much Going On

rusty-dolphin.jpgThere’s nothing much going on around here. There seems to be plenty for mom and dad with work and all. I did get to go to the park for walkies again. This statue is in the same park I went to before. Mom made me sit on it so she could take my picture. I had fun except for this part. Does your mom ever make you sit still to take silly pictures like this?

Recovered

blue-dog.jpgWhew! I’m about recover from that long day of walking on Saturday. I didn’t do much on Sunday and today mom went back to school because Christmas break was over. It was kinda lonely around here today. But when mom got home I ran and got my Blue Dog and we had a good game of tug of war and fetch!

dogbiscuits.jpgI forgot to show you the yummy homemade dog biscuits mom got for me at First Monday. I liked that shop! It smelled good and there were all kinds of flavors! Some biscuits were even on a low shelf. I found them but mom said “LEAVE IT” to me. She is always saying that! She took a picture of my yummy dog biscuits next to some stupid tangerines they bought there. Those things don’t even smell good. I hope they didn’t actually touch any of my new snacks!

First Monday

rstat.jpgToday I got to go to First Monday with mom and dad. Mom hasn’t taken me here too much because it has been too hot before.

We walked all over the place and mom shopped a lot.

walkingat1stm.jpg

One good thing though! I got hand made dog bisquits! YUM!! I also got my picture taken with the famous statue in front of the old part of First Monday.

I’m really tired now from all that walking, 4 hours worth! I’m going to go take a LONG nap!

Ok…Here goes!

I am not a weird little dog, so I don’t think I can list 7 weird things about myself but I’ll try!

1. I get car sick sometimes. Mom rides with a towel on her lap if it looks like it is going to be one of those days.

2. As much as I’ve tried I’ve never caught a squirrel!

3. I like little kids, but not a bunch of them all at once. One at a time is good!

4. Mom and dad think I’m jealous when they pat Bear. I’m not! I have lots of self confidence and self esteem. It’s just that sometimes…….they pat her.

5.I have my own Hollywood star. There is a picture of it up there. I think it’s fun!

6. I don’t like to get in bath water but I love to run through puddles of water in the back yard. It sure does splash good if I get a running start!

7. My papers say I am a Yorkshire Terrier but I weigh 20 pounds. Don’t tell.

Busy Week

Whew!!! It’s been a busy week here at my house. Mom and dad had a lot of people in and out. Some of them even stayed over, but mom made them go outside at night so I wouldn’t be bothered while I was trying to sleep. (Rusty’s mom: they went out to the ‘guest house’ to sleep, where they would be comfortable. Of coures Rusty thinks it’s all about him! )

100_4562.jpgThe people who stayed over night 3 times even had a little person who wasn’t much taller than me. (Rusty’s mom: these people were my niece, her husband and my great-niece) Mom said she was really proud of me. I’ve never been around a little bitty person like that and I treated her nice. I didn’t even growl at her when she grabbed my nose with her thumb in my nostril and pinched. She always smelled good and she always had this cup thing with a soft top on it with her. Any time I even got close to it mom said “LEAVE IT” to me.

worn-out.jpgHere is a picture of me after they all left.  I was worn out.
